One could just go on an all produce diet (but really - how many people are going to do that) but they're even importing produce from China.
The CBC had an interview with someone at the Food Termainl warehouse in Toronto and he was saying the produce was 1/3 the price from China as it was from other parts of the world.
Like I said - if it's prepackaged , even if it says "Made in Canada" it could still be Chinese sourced product.
Don't get me wrong I'd prefer people stop eating all animal product and just eat locally grown produce since I'm vegan however I've even stopped eating soy meat because I don't know where they're getting their ingredients from.

I eat really healthy personally, mostly frozen fish and chicken, vegs, etc..... in all honesty though, if I felt like grabbing something from the dollar store to eat I wouldn't care where it was made or anything. If you're on a regular diet of the stuff, then you might be in trouble. If it's just occasionally you have more important things to worry about than catching some rare disease/poisoning from their food LOL
There's a lot of other stuff that we consume that's worse for our health than a little beef jerky. Eg. Pop, Chips, icecream, packaged froezen meals, etc.

As a University student... you just listed my entire diet.

Aside from produce being imported from China that fish (from fish farms) and chicken you're eating needed to be fed themselves before they made their way to your plate.
And, imho, the disturbing this is we as consumers have no idea exactly what they were being fed - and from where. Then whatever they were fed is in turn being fed to you by eating them.

I guess we really need to shut our border and ban trading altogether. We have to employ strict profiling to ensure our production worker has the proper gene, and they must be protected by Union to ensure they cannot be replaced with cheap labour.
I guess the ideal solution is to have a protective sphere around Canada so even outside air cannot get in - you know, the air could have circulated from somewhere else to here, better safe than sorry.
Thinking about it, even the water we are drinking is not safe. I mean, the water pipe could have contained material that was originated or manufacture indirectly from China!!! This is getting scary.
P.S. hey, what happen to your personal web site? Why don't you advertise it on RFD anymore? I am sure a lot of new member wants to know.

Is this supposed to be a haiku or something?
I don't really trust food from the dollar store, well maybe the chips and pop. In the end every meat is just food and comes out looking the same in the end.

So this is what they do with enemies of the state in China...
Seriously guys, nothing directly saying 'made in china' from a dollar store is going into my mouth.
Too much risk...

wtf
There's no way a company is going to ship product from north america overseas to china have them prepare/cure it and then ship it back over seas and still cost only dollar store prices
Made in china it's all chinese. What they meant to say on the package is "Solid strips of Argentina STYLED beef". They purposely left that out to let consumers assume it's from argentina.
Nevermind I confused argentina with arkansas
but it's still sounds a bit too expensive to ship from S.A. to china and then to N.A.

Hey, what's wrong with dog meat? Well, except if they package it into "Beef Jerky" then it's misleading advertisement. But still, what's the problem with dog meat?

Dog meat is D grade meat. Hot Dogs can be a minimum of C grade. D grade is not healthy for humans and is actually unhealthy as in poisonous to humans. You don't want to eat dog meat or cat food for that matter. The only thing worse than those types of animal food is the stuff scavengers would eat. Pigs can eat even lower grade, surprisingly pig DNA is 98% alike to humans yet we do not resemble pigs and our digestive system is way more intolerant than a pig's digestive system. As an extra note cow's blood is the most alike to human blood apparently. Quite a strange puzzle this animal kingdom.

Seriously man why does your reply has to be so mocking? After that poisoned pet food I'd imagine anyone could understand how someone would be be uncomfortable about food coming from China.
We have to employ strict profiling to ensure our production worker has the proper gene, and they must be protected by Union to ensure they cannot be replaced with cheap labour.
You live in North York? From what I understand about Toronto that's a pretty upper class area. I suppose few there really care about the working man receiving a decent wage for their work.
I guess the ideal solution is to have a protective sphere around Canada so even outside air cannot get in - you know, the air could have circulated from somewhere else to here, better safe than sorry.
Since a sphere is impossible that's the reason why countries that pollute less need to get higher polluting countries like the US and China from destroying our environment.

I'm not the only one in this thread concerned about Chinese food:

Although I grieved at the thousands of dead pets from poisoned pet food containing Chinese ingredients I couldn't help but think of how coal miners used to bring a canary into the mines. If there was poisoned gas in the mine the canary would die alerting the miner he should exit and if we should have realized those dead cats and dogs should have been a signal to us.

I'M CHINESE AND I DON'T EVEN EAT STUFF MADE IN CHINA.
The horror stories you hear.. I don't want to find a cat's paw in one of those. Nor do I want to find a monkey's tail in it either. Eat at your own risk. I don't want mad monkey disease. Or SARS.

I'm curious - if it's made in Canada but is sourced from Chinese made ingredients and sold at major supermarket chains would that make it alright for you and if so why?
Not trying to be argumentative btw - just curious.

Agreed. I'm the biggest lover of Chinese MP4 player on this site but food is a different story.

It's the Civit.
General appearance is broadly cat-like, but the muzzle is extended and often pointed, rather like an otter or a mongoose.
Despite their endangered species status, civets are also prized for their meat.
It has been suggested that the practice of eating palm civets may have resulted in the SARS virus outbreak of 2003. In January 2004, Guangdong province in China banned sales and ordered the slaughter of all captive civets. In January 2004 the United States announced an embargo on the importation of civets.
